Herr Reichart – der Vorsitzende des IOK:

Liebe Damen und Herren!
Ladies and Gentlemen!

Unsere Konferenz ist den Olympischen Spielen 2010 gewidmet.

Einmal in 4 Jahren finden in verschiedenen Ländern Olympische Spiele statt.

Mr. Wilson the major from Vancouver:

Vancouver is a costal city and a major seaport, located in the southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It’s named after Captain Vancouver, a British explorer. It’s one of the largest industrial, cultural and sport centers of Canada. Its economy is traditionally relied on natural resource sectors: forests, mining, fishing and agriculture. The port is very significant. Vancouver has a growing tourism industry. The city is having the third highest quality of living in the world after Zurich and Geneva. The mild climate of the city and close proximity to ocean, mountains, rivers, lakes make the area very suitable for organizing Olympic Games here.

The nearby North Shore Mountains are home to three ski areas: Cypress Mountain, Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour. Each is within 20-30 minutes (driving time) of downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver is served by the International Airport, located on the Sea Island in large city of Richmond, not far from Vancouver.

The main thing of winter Olympic Games is snow. Canada is the country that has lots of it. We are sure that Vancouver can be a very good host city for the future Olympic Games.

A journalist from the U.S.A.:

What about the transportation system of the city?

Mr. Wilson:

There is a special transportation authority in the city. It provides a bus service, a foot passenger, a bicycle service and a two-line automatic metro station. The way to different sports centers will take you no more than 30 minutes.

A correspondent from Russia:

Will all the competitions be held at the stadium?

Mr. Wilson:

No. As I’ve told you before, Canada is a country of lakes and mountains. We plan to arrange some competitions in the open air. Pretty frosty weather and beautiful landscape will make these competitions unforgettable.

Mr. James – the member of the NOC of Scotland:

Today we want to represent Edinburgh as the capital of the future Olympic Games. Among all cities of Scotland, we are sure, Edinburgh is the most suitable. It is one of the oldest cities. Its history goes back to the 6-th century. It’s one of the most picturesque cities in Europe, attractive, proud and friendly. Edinburgh castles, the Cannongate, Holyrood House, Greyfriars Booby, will attract attention of thousands of tourists. Our city is not very large, but all the stadiums, port centers are situated not only in Edinburgh, but in Glasgow, which is 15 miles away.

The net of roads is well developed. A great variety of hotels, big, expensive and rather cheap, have been recently built.

It’s necessary to mention the Scots. I won’t exaggerate if I’ll tell you that they are fond of sports since childhood. Many sports games have appeared in Scotland. They are real sports fans, they are proud of their sportsmen and love them, but also respect their rivals. Our Olympic Games will be in a good and friendly atmosphere.

A journalist from “The Times”:

Which kinds of sport are most popular in Scotland?

Mr. James:

All kinds of sports that are played by a tem attract attention of fans but every sportsman will be in the centre.

A correspondent from China:

How can you settle all those people, who will watch the Olympic Games here?

Mr. James:

Scotland is a very small country. I’ve told you about the great number of hotels. Besides, every family will be glad to see you in their own houses. We will not only give you “Ben & Breakfast”, but show you our wonderful city.

Olympischen Sommerspiele statt.

Herr Schulz:

In München leben etwa 200000 Ausländer. Früher hatten wir Probleme. Jetzt ist alles in Ordnung.

Korrespondent aus Polen:

Wie ist das Klima in Bayern?

Herr Schulz:

Das Klima ist mild.

Mr. Johnson – the member of the NOC of America:

Salt Lake City is a city, situated in the northern part of North America. It has its name because of the Salt lake, situated here. It’s one of the most ancient, cultural, industrial, scientific and sport centres of the USA. The story of Salt Lake City’s settlement and growth is written in the historic buildings of its downtown. Salt Lake City Walking tour identifies 58 historic buildings and sites encompassing over 100 years of the City’s history and architecture.

Speaking about places of interest, it’s necessary to mention the City and Country Building (visitors are astonished by its sheer size and bulk) and Washington Square, named after the first president of the United States of America. It remains an oasis of permanence and dignity. Here, the past lives harmonically with the present and points the way to the future. In our point of view, the nature, the climate, mountains, lakes and rivers make it suitable for spending the Olympic Games here.

We are ready to host sportsmen, tourists, correspondents. A lot of hotels, restaurants, cafes, stadiums and sport centres have been lately built. Salt Lake City International Airport is located five miles northwest of downtown. The airfield consists of three air carrier runways and a general aviation runway. There are 2 terminals, 5 concourses and 70 aircraft gates.

I can tell you a lot of information about my native city, sport facilities, but time is limited. I’m ready to answer your questions.

A correspondent from Italy:

What is the current population of the city?

Mr. Johnson:

According to the Census Bureau, the estimated population as of July 1, 2006, was 180 890.

A correspondent from Russia:

Mr. Johnson:

The highest point within the city boundaries is Grandview Peak, which is 9 410 feet, or 2 870 meters, above the sea. The lowest point is 4 210 feet, or 1 280 meters. The average elevation of the city is 4 327 feet, or 1 320 meters.
