Teacher: What is the fastest way of travelling?

Pupil 3: I think travelling by plane is the fastest way of travelling, because, for example, it takes 2 hours to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg. (Слайд 5)

Teacher: Can you name any advantages of travelling by train?

Pupil 4: I think travelling by train is rather cheap, and then travelling by train I can see new cities, new towns, fields, forests, heroic places. (Слайд 6)

Teacher: What are the disadvantages of travelling by plane and by car?

Teacher: What do you think about travelling by sea? (Слайд 7)

Pupil 6: I think travelling by sea is interesting, but dangerous.

Pupil 3: Somebody travels abroad to practice foreign languages.

Pupil 4: Somebody understands that travelling is a part of people’s education.

Pupil 5: Travelling teaches people about art and culture.

6. Работа с текстом учебника и аудирование (работа в группах).

Teacher: Teenagers from some British schools were asked to write an article for a travel magazine and share their opinions about tourism. Now some of you’ll read and some of you’ll listen to their opinions and then answer the questions.

(Учащиеся выполняют задание, разделившись на группы. Учащиеся 1-й группы, посильнее, получают задание на прослушивание текста; учащиеся 2-й группы, послабее, получают задание на прочтение текста, затем отвечают на вопросы по своим текстам).

Teacher: What does David think about travelling abroad?

Pupil 1: He thinks that travel has always been a part of people’s education and it’s the biggest business in some countries.

Teacher: Is David for or against tourism? What are his arguments?

Pupil 2: David is for tourism. It teaches people about art and culture and helps improve the knowledge of foreign language.

Teacher: How does David feel about travelling with parents?

Pupil 3: He’s happy because it’s fun and his dad gives David more pocket money.

Teacher: Is Alison of the same opinion as David?

Pupil 4: No she doesn’t.

Teacher: What place does Alison mention as ideal for holidays? What are her arguments?

Pupil 5: She thinks the ideal place for holiday is home. It is comfortable. Her family and friends are near her.

Teacher: What problems trouble her most?

Pupil 6: She thinks that travel leaflets are not true. And Alison worries about environmental problems.

7. Дискуссия по теме “Going Abroad: Pros and Cons”.

Teacher: David and Alison have different views on tourism. Whose side are you on? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of tourism. You may use cards with phrases on your tables. (Учащиеся продолжают работать в группах, они приводят аргументы в пользу своей точки зрения, записывая их на доске. В конце дискуссии учащиеся вместе с учителем определяют, чьи аргументы были более убедительными.) (Слайд 11)
