(выходят дети и читают стихи, затем группа учащихся показывают сценку, праздник заканчивается играми)

Halloween is coming,
What will you be?
I might be a pirate
On the deep blue sea.

Halloween is coming,
What will you wear?
I might wear a blanket
And be a brown bear.

Halloween is coming,
What will you see?
I might see a jack-o-lantern
Winking at me.

Halloween is coming,
Who will you meet?
I might meet a princess
Skipping down the street.

Halloween is coming,
What will you be?
It’s a secret,
So, wait and see!

The Cat Who Wanted to Ride on a Broom by Alice Very

Characters:

Setting

(The witch’s kitchen)

At rise

The Cat is curled up purring on the hearth. Suddenly a great racket in the fireplace and the Witch comes down the chimney on the broom, bumping into the Cat.

Cat: Meow!

Witch:

What now?
Always mewing,
Nothing doing
Lazy Cat!
Take that! (Strikes at Cat with broom.)

Cat:

Please excuse me.
Don’t abuse me.

Witch:

Here’s the broom.
You’re the groom.
Rub it down,
Make it clean,
Ready for our Halloween. (Hands broom to Cat.)
Now I’ll get dressed
All in my best.
Soon I’ll be galloping off with the rest.
(Goes out inner door.)

Cat:

(Polishing the broom.) I wish that I knew
Some way to go too!
I wish I could fly
Right to the sky,
But I don’t know the spell
And the broom will not tell.

(Sounds of wailing and screeching outside. Lights? flash through windows. Three loud knocks at door.)

Cat:

Come in, come in,
Whoever you be.
Goblins and witches
Can’t scare me.

(enter Witches, goblins, curious creatures and Jack O’Lantern riding brooms.)

Chorus:

Witches and elves,
Come out to play.
The moon is shining
Bright as day.
Sweep your house
And make it clean,
Then ride your broom
On Halloween.

(Enter the Witch, hastily tying her rag-tags.)

Jack O’Lantern:

Here’s the old witch
With her face black as pitch.

Witch:

How do I look?
Quite ill, I hope.
I used a piece of coal for soap.

Cat:

(Washing paws and face.) You’d be much prettier to see
If you would wash your face like me.

Witch:

Be still, I wasn’t asking you.
Speak when you are spoken to.

Jack O’Lantern:

Come on, let’s go
Don’t mind the Cat.
Get on the broom,
Put on your hat, fly to the moon as quick as scat!

Cat:

Mew, mew!
Let me go to!

Witch:

A cat ride a broom!
Well I should say not!
Stay here in this room
And keep the soup hot.

Chorus:

A cat ride a broom!
She ought to be shot!

(All except Cat mount brooms and gallop out.)

Cat:

(Curling up on hearth.) I’m not going to cry
But I wish I could fly.
It’s hard to be one
Left out of the fun.

(A loud zooming outside. Cat sits up and listens. A knock at the door.)

Cat:

Knock, knock, come in,
Whoever you be.
Goblins and witches
Can’t scare me.

(Enter the Airman, riding an airplane or kiddie car with wings and so forth attached.)

Cat:

(Jumping on chair.) Meow! – you scat!
Get out – shoo, shoo!
What kind of bat or bird are you?

Airman:

(Getting out) Excuse me please,
I just came down
To ask the way
To Boston town.

Cat:

The way is so far
It’s no use to try,
You never will get there
Unless you can fly.

Airman:

Of course I can fly,
It’s easy as pie.

Cat:

Oh, let me go too!
There’s room by your side.

Airman:

If you give me some supper
I’ll give you a ride.

Cat:

The soup is all hot
In the old Witch’s pot,
And I’ll share with you gladly
A mouse that I caught.

Airman:

My thanks for your mouse
But it’s not what i wish.
I’d rather have milk
In your little blue dish.

Cat:

(Giving Airman bowl of milk, which he drinks.)

While the witch is away
We’ve time for a snack,
And then we can play
Until she comes back.

Airman:

Jump into the plane,
I’ll push it outside,
And if you’re not scared
We’ll go for a ride.

Cat:

(Getting into “airplane”, while Airman pushes it out.)

Hooray, hooray!
We’re on our way!

(Loud zooming again outside. The Witch rushes in, followed by Witches, Goblins, Curious Creatures and Jack O’Lantern, all yelling and screeching.)

Witch:

Help, help! Let me by!
What monster was that?

Jack O’Lantern:

It flew in the sky
Like a horrible bat!
And if I’m not mistaken
It’s eaten your Cat!

Witch:

What! Eaten my Kitty?
Oh, what shall I do?

(Wipes eyes with large bandanna, removing some black.)

Jack O’Lantern:

Poor Cat! It’s a pity
She wasn’t with you. (Zooming sounds again.)

Witch:

Oh, there it is now!
Get under the table,
Just hide anyhow
As well as you’re able.

(All crawl under tables or back of chairs, and so forth, shivering with flight.)

Cat:

(Entering and turning to wave paw.) Goodbye, Mr. Airman!
‘Twas jolly and gay.
Come back here again
When you’re passing this way!

(Zooming dies away in distance as Witches and Goblings and rest crawl out of hiding.)

Jack O’Lantern:

We’re saved!
Now the monster’s
Gone back to its den.

Witch:

(Hugging Cat) Oh, Kitty, I never
Will leave you again!
You shall feast upon
Halibut, catnip and cream,
And ride on my broom with me,
Next Halloween!

(Dance of Witches, Goblins, Cusious Creatures, Jack O’Lantern, and Cat and Old Witch.)

Teacher: Let’s see what we know about Halloween.

Halloween Party Games

  1. Pumpkin seeds.
Put two or three handfuls of dried pumpkin seeds into a bowl. The pupils must try to guess how many seeds are in the bowl.

  2. Witches’ races.
Teams are chosen with a leader for each team. At a signal the leader of each side races from the starting-point to a fixed goal mounted on a broom like the witch of Halloween lore! He must ride the broom to the goal and back again. Having returned to the starting point he gives the broom to the second one on his team. The second person makes the same hasty trip, handing the broom to the third player, and so on. The side which finishes first wins.

  3. Bobbing for apples.
A tub of water in which a number of apples are floating is placed in the center of the room. The boys and girls try to catch the apples in their teeth. Their hands must be kept clasped behind them.

  4. Cat’s tail.
Cut out a huge black cat (omitting a tail) from black paper and paste it on a sheet on the wall. Then cut a number of tails from the paper. Each player is blind- folded in turn and tries to pin the tail in the correct position on the cat.
After everyone has had a trial the prize is given to the one who has pinned the tail in the most ridiculous position..

Teacher: Let’s finish our party with the Halloween song!
