T: Today we are going to start a new lesson, but first I want you to revise what we did last lessons. We talked about the British ways of life, did not we? Can you give me some facts about life in GB?

Pupils give the information from the text “The British ways of life”

T: I would like to add that British people take care of their health. They try to eat healthy food to keep fit, go in for sports, and fewer people smoke now. They have always been wise so there are a lot of English proverbs about health. I have prepared some for you.

Try to read them. These sheets of paper are with 2 parts of proverbs (the beginning and the end). Try to put British proverbs together and read them. It will be difficult, but I am sure that you will manage to do it.

For this activity I would like to divide you into two groups / let’s work in groups of our.

Good health is above wealth.

Prevention is better than cure.

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

I think 3 minutes will be enough. Are there any words you do not no the Russian for?

Read the proverbs.

Pupils read the proverbs.

T: Can you give Russian equivalents?

These sheets of papers with proverbs are for you. Read them at home, choose one you like best of all, learn it be heart and think a story to illustrate the proverb and tell it. It will be your home task.

II.

T: But sometimes people are ill.

What should you do to be healthy? And what should not you do?

Look at the pictures and say (the pictures are in the textbook p.197).

But first of all I would like you to tell me the rule for should. When can we use should?

P: We can use should to give advice.

T: When we are ill we have some problems with different parts of the body.

I would like to see whether you remember these words.

Look at the picture and name the parts of the boy’s body.

P: answers

T: When we are ill we have an ache.

Ache is a continuous pain.

A pain in the head is a headache.

When people are ill they have

a headache

a toothache

a stomachache

an earache

a backache

Have you ever had a toothache?

P: answers

T: What do we do when we are ill?

P: - We call a doctor.

- A doctor comes to visit us.

- We go to see a doctor.

T: What does the doctor do when he comes to visit us?

P: He usually listens to my chest and lungs, takes my temperature, feels my pulse, and tells me to take the medicines regularly …

T: Look at the blackboard. The phrases are mixed here. One of them are doctor’s phrases, the other are patient’s. Put the doctor’s words into the first column and the patient’s phrases into the second one.

DOCTOR PATIENT.
What is the matter with you?
What about your appetite?
Take the medicine.
You should stay in bed.
Take the pills three times a day after meals.
Hope you will feel better soon.

You must follow my advice
Come and see me on Monday.

I have got a terrible headache.
I do not want anything?
How often do I have to take medicine?
Goodbye, doctor, and thank you very muc

Use these phrases and think of your own dialogue. You can make some changes.

Work in pairs.

Pupils act out their dialogues.
